Best Mentaiko Salmon and Don in Singapore
Source: Jajabakes
What is Mentaiko? Mentaiko is created by seasoning fresh pollack or cod roe with mayonnaise. Mentaiko itself has a special salty and spicy taste that has a texture like mayonnaise sauce but is infused with cod roe. Mentaiko has a strong taste so it is best accompanied by rice. You can also create your own Mentaiko sauce easily!
To all my Mentaiko Lovers out there, I would like to introduce you to some of my favorite Mentaiko dishes in Singapore as well as the ambiance of the place and the price of the dishes!
Genki Adventure
Source: Genki
My first ever Mentaiko experience was at Genki Sushi where I have tasted Salmon Mentaiko Sushi as well
as Mentaiko Fries for the first time and I have totally fallen in love with Mentaiko Sauce. ๐ The Salmon Mentai melts in my mouth and it is definitely hard to not order more plates! The Mentaiko Fries are drizzled with silky smooth Mentaiko sauce and you can ask for more Mentaiko sauce if it is not enough! If you love Mentaiko sauce, you will love the Mini Salmon Avocado Mentai Don, it's delicious! Other than my favorite Mentaiko dishes, Genki serves delicious and fresh sashimi, appetizers, sushi, rice bowls, noodles, and more through their unique conveyor belt system that mimics Japan's Kousoku (Express) system. This has definitely made the dining experience for customers more interesting!
Price
One plate of Salmon Mentai Sushi costs $2.80

Waacow Adventure
This is my personal all-time favorite Beef Mentaiko rice bowl from Waacow.๐ The rich Mentaiko sauce on the succulent wagyu beef and the delicious onsen egg is a must-have. The beef melts in my mouth and the Mentaiko sauce goes so well with it. Other than the Mentaiko Wagyu Beef Bowl, Waacow serves Mentaiko Salmon (both raw and medium-rare) Rice bowl, Truffle Wagyu Beef Bowl, Chicken Karage Don, and more! This is strongly recommended by the popular food gourmet Seth Lui and Daniel Food Diary!
I have tried Waacow at both of their outlets; one at NUS Utown and the other one at Marina One. NUS has the campus ambiance where you see youthful students roaming around while at Marina One, the view could have been better if there was no construction across the road but it would still be a nice place to go to with your coworkers for a drink or two after a long day of tiring work. Strongly recommend this when you are feeling rich or feel like rewarding yourself!

Donya Adventure
All images here are taken from Donya Facebook Page.
This place is recommended by another fellow Mentaiko Lover friend of mine and this is her favorite Mentaiko place because it is truly a hidden gem! One bowl of Salmon Mentaiko Don costs merely $7.90 when it would probably cost double this price if it is eaten at a restaurant ๐ Many can enjoy affordable rice bowls in a coffeeshop setting. The best part is, the quality of the food at Donya is not compromised by their low price point at all. This Salmon is always freshly prepared and so are their sides! My friend insisted to share this gem and recommend any Mentaiko Lovers to try out this place! Nevertheless, EatBook, Seth Lui, and LadyIronChef mentioned that this place is affordable and very generous with their proportions!
